If you have a passion for art and a desire to share your knowledge with other people, then the position of Art Teacher could be a great career for you to consider. Being an Art Teacher can be a most rewarding role since you are having a direct and hopefully very positive effect on another person’s direction in life.
If you would like to become an art teacher you will need to have a passion for the subject and patience to go with it. It is your responsibility to make sure that your pupils enjoy the subject and become passionate about it, and it is down to you to nurture their talent. Alongside the classroom work you will have undertake a good deal of paper work and marking. This again requires patience and a good attention to detail. This position generally requires you to have a post graduate qualification in teaching, and ideally your degree course will be arts based.
There are various institutions that you can work in, art teachers positions will not just be found in schools. You can look to teach in school, colleges, or Universities but it is important that you decide what sort of aged pupil you think you will work best with. There will also be the possibility to run arts classes for pre-school children, and indeed, you may need less qualifications for this sort of position.
If you are a great sharer of information, and have a strong educational history which includes teacher training, then working as an art teacher could be perfect for you. The rewards are good too, with a typical salary of about $50,000. This can range hugely, and after a number of years’ service and promotion you can reasonably expect to earn upwards of $80,000 per annum.
