Automotive Jobs


The field of automotive jobs can offer a wide variety of positions for those who have an interest or expertise in electronic, mechanical, software or electronic engineering relating to the design, manufacture and operation of a variety of automotive vehicles including motorcycles, automobiles, buses, and trucks.

There are three main areas for you to consider for this field of work, which are product and design engineering, development engineering and manufacturing engineering. All of these jobs relate to each other and it is quite often possible to move between these fields as your career progresses, so it is certainly a field in which there is flexibility and the possibility to continually improve and further your knowledge of the all round industry.

It would also seem that the automotive industry is somewhat recession proof, with man-kind having an absolute need for transport, whatever the current economic climate. As a designer you will always be in demand as in times of financial difficulties people will look to you to find solutions to expensive fuelling systems, and in manufacturing engineering, people will look to your skill set to determine just how to produced a vehicle for a cheaper figure. Saving money is a must in these big industries, and it is the engineers who best understand how to cut costs and make things more fuel efficient and employers realise that this is not the area in which to cut jobs.

Having an automotive position will also allow you to flex your creative muscles by allowing you to design and create engineered parts for vehicles which will eventually be mass produced. It is a challenging role but one in which someone with the necessary skills can thrive.

Entry into this type of position is by no means straight forward, and you really ought to have a batchelors degree in automotive engineering, or at least a more general engineering degree.

The pay for automotive jobs is excellent and the average wage stands at $86,000.
