Chef Jobs

If you love anything and everything culinary, and you have what it takes to work in a busy bustling restaurant, then a chef job might be right up your alley. Starting out, you will need to be able to take orders with a minimum of fuss and you need to be able to carry out instructions to the letter. The rewards and career progression can be great but if you are a school leaver you need to start at the bottom of the pile.

The benefits of working in a chef job are many. You will enjoy being part of a close knit team, be able to sample some of the great food that you produce, and depending on what type of chef you become, you will have the opportunity to travel.

The future of the role of a chef is good. A recent survey showed that the amount of Americans who eat out on a regular basis has increased dramatically over the past thirty years. More and more restaurants open to cater for the trade that is out there and as such there will be more and more chef jobs available to you as the years go on.

It is also quite straight forward to become a chef. You do not specifically need a degree, and many employers are happy to take on trainees who have a high school diploma or equivalent. If you have trained already to become a chef and have some higher qualifications for the role then this means that you will have the opportunity to start your career one or two rings higher than others. Fear not though, because if you are not already qualified, there are lots of opportunities to train on the job.

Salaries are varied, but an average wage for a decent chef who has been working for a few years is $37,000 per annum.
