Proofreaders need to be able to pay attention to detail and to be able to concentrate all the time. It is not an easy job, and many people fall into the trap of thinking that it will be. To land a great proofreading role, you need to put together an excellent Proofreader Resume and cover letter and they need to be put together immaculately. If you can’t proof read your own application, then you really won’t stand much hope of landing a job as a proofreader!
You should begin the application by writing a Proofreader cover letter. This will give you a chance to apply for the job formally, and it is also a great opportunity for you to give some reasons why you should be considered for the post. You could draw reference to previous experience, and you could also mention your qualifications for the job, but remember that you will be talking about these subjects in your Proofreader Resume so make sure you only briefly mention these subjects.

You can start this off with an objective which will show what sort of position you are looking for. It is important that this statement shows that you have aspirations to find a position very similar to the one for which you are applying, so you should use the job description to help you do this.

You can start by mentioning how many years of experience you have and you should then make a list of all of your skills. You should look to mention things like and ability to focus on close detail, an ability to follow guidelines, you should mention that you are good with deadlines, and you could also discuss your ability to oversee other colleagues and explain the principles of proofreading in your particular company.
The next section of your Proofreader Resume should focus on your professional experience. List all of your previous positions in reverse order and make sure that you expand on each position. You can talk about your duties in each job, mentioning things like a requirement for you to edit documents, dealt with training new personnel, assessed layout and typeset of publications and ensured the timely finalising of proofreading.
The final section of your Proofreading Resume should be about your qualifications. You should with any luck have a degree in literature of creative writing, but if not you can take courses specifically for proofreading which will qualify you for the position. Also, a qualification in editing will help you to land the right job.
