References Be Listed On A Resume

This article provides information on References Be Listed On A Resume

So, when you are creating a professional resume for a position that you are interested in, how do you include professional references? The answer? We simply don't. Why, you may well wonder? For a number of reasons to include the fact that it is not professional and it disrupts your references’ privacy rights. To look like a professional candidate and one that is respectful of their professional associations, you should never include professional references in the content of your resume.

Professionalism
The first thing to consider when approaching the topic of inclusion of professional references in your resume is that of professionalism. You should never include professional references on your resume because it simply does not look professional. Employers do not expect that you would include references in the body of your references, as it is not common practice for professional positions. You may find that in filling out an application, they might ask for references; but this is entirely different from that of your resume. In the case of an application, you should be able to furnish at least three professional references; but again, this is typically not for a professional position.

Privacy
Secondly, consider how you might feel if someone you knew whom you agreed to offer a professional reference for, was giving away your name and contact information for every position they were interested in-online and through the mail. Do you know how many people could get a hold of this information, and contact you for solicitation and other purposes-unrelated to the purpose of helping your contact get a job? Many. This said, by doing the same, you are not only not thanking your contact for their professional reference for positions that you might be interested in; but also, going one step further and disrespecting the value of their reference by broadcasting it all over the career industry.
