Acting Resumes

As an Actor you should be used to having to grab people’s attention, but in the form of a Resume it may not be something you are used to. Here, we outline exactly what you need to do in order to produce an excellent Acting Resume and cover letter.

Start off with the Acting cover letter. This letter needs to show real passion for the subject. Start with the basics and explain that you would like to be considered for the job, but from this part onwards, it is about persuading the reader how much you want the job, and why you are so suitable for it. Explain that you have had similar experience in the past and give examples. By all means cite qualifications, but try not to give too much information at this point, because you will be expanding on these points within your Acting Resume. Finalise your Acting cover letter by stating again your desire to be considered for the role, and by leaving clear contact details at the foot of the page.

Your Acting Resume needs to start with a career objective. This can be as ambitious as you like, but make sure that it falls in line with the job for which you are applying. Make sure that this objective is a strong statement, which hits the reader between the eyes and leaves them with no doubt about how you would like to see your career progress.

The next section should be about your career to date. Here you should list your previous acting roles in reverse order, but you should also mention more than this. Talk about what you go out of all the roles, what you tried to bring to each role, and always mention if any of the roles were particularly successful.

Your Acting Resume should then move on to a section about your qualifications. Although not always critical to acting, some qualifications are great to have on your Resume. If you have attended a professional acting or drama school then you really need to go into detail about what areas you specialised in, and what areas you excelled in. You can also include at the end of this section a list of amateur productions that you have been involved in prior to our professional acting career.

The last section of your Acting Resume is a great opportunity to show off your personality. Tell the reader about your passions in life and explain what you like to do outside of work. If this can include any group activities that you regularly take part in this will indicate that you can work well in a group, which is of course crucial to actors.

We wish you the best of luck in your application, and remind you that if you remember to follow our advice, you give yourself a great chance of making the auditions!
