Architect Resumes

Before diving into the writing of your Architect Resume you need to put together an Architect cover letter. You need to show a personnel manager that you are qualified to deal with the tasks related to the role which you are applying for. You should look to talk about your understanding of design, construction material and methods which would normally be associated with this position. You should also show that you’re up to speed with the production of floor planes and other visual techniques such as 3D architectural plans through computer programs, like ArchiCAD. This is a specialist position so you need to show that you are yourself a specialist.

Your Architect cover letter should still follow a fairly standard set up, with your name and address at the head of the page, followed by date and your employers address. Start off with your experience in architectural firms and your knowledge of the job role advertised. You need to show that you understand the role, and that you are qualified for the role and you have the experience to boot, but you need to do all of this ideally in the space of a single typed page. This means being succinct. Be polite, gracious and persuasive.

Once you have completed your Architecture cover letter, it’s time to turn your attention to your Architecture Resume. You should stick to the same script as your cover letter. With an Architecture Resume it is vitally important that you show your in depth knowledge throughout. You should give the impression of having a great deal of creative flair. You should also pull the direction of your Architecture Resume in the direction of your specialised areas, as long as they are relevant to the role. Be sure to mention any prestigious architectural jobs you have worked on as it will show that you have the ability to wow people with your work. Also, if you can highlight any satisfied customers from your past work, this will also work in your favour.

After your Name and address head up the page, you should have an objective statement. This needs to encapsulate what you hope to achieve in the position you are applying for so it must be succinct and to the point. By all means try and impress with your understanding of the role, but keep it simple. If expand too far you will lose sight of the point you are making and this won’t impress anyone.

From this point on your Architectural Resume should follow a fairly typical resume. You should list all qualifications, and follow this with your work experience, as usual starting with most recent first for both sections. With the experience section, you can be a bit more expansive. Look to highlight your role within projects and try to explain how your input helped the project along the way. You should also be looking to get across the point that you are progressive in your career and you can be cutting edge in your design if necessary.
