Builders Resumes

Most builders would openly admit that writing is not their strong point but that doesn’t mean you get away with a bad Builders Resume and cover letter! If anything it is an opportunity for you to establish yourself as the candidate for any given job who has really pushed the boat out in an attempt to impress your prospective employer.

Start off with a concise Builders cover letter. This should start with your name and address and all of your contact details. Follow this with details of who you are applying to, including business name, contact name and their address. Next up you need a nice polite and professional opening paragraph which informs the reader of the position for which you are applying, where and when you saw the advert, and perhaps some detail about their company and why you would want to work for them.

The next paragraph of your Builders cover letter should be a strong selling paragraph where you can briefly mention some of your skills and experience. You will go into further detail about this section in your Builders Resume but it is a good idea to point the reader in the direction of your Resume by way of mentioning your experience here. You could consider giving a number of years experience in the field with a few examples of your skills, such as ability to operate particular types of machinery, and certain certifications held.

Close your cover letter by indicating your desire for a meeting or interview, and show some flexibility in terms of when you would be available for interview.

Your Builders Resume should again start with your contact details. Follow this with an objective, which is a statement of your desires and ambitions in terms of your career. Make sure this relates to your application. You can follow your objective with a summary of your career to date. This should be a bite sized section with a run-down of your skills and experiences, to be expanded upon in your education and work experience sections. Your Education should run in reverse chronological order and start with your most recent first. If you have any technical qualifications that you have gained whilst on the job then it is worth listing these first.

Your Builders Resume should also have a large section dedicated to your work experience. A builder is a highly skilled tradesman and this section is an opportunity for you to highlight all of the skill sets you have developed in your time as a builder. If you have masonry skills, machine operation experience, site clearance experience, make sure you mention it all. You might be going for a specific position, but all employers like to know that their employees can be flexible when called upon.

You can round off your Builders Resume with some information about your life experience away from work. Mention any team or organisational activities that you take part in, because this will show your ability to work with other people, and it will give the reader a better impression of who you are.
