Computer Resumes

Your Computer Resume needs to show what particular areas you have been focusing on in recent times. If you have been working in the industry for many years, no doubt your career will have changed direction on a couple of occasions. It is important for your Computer Resume to show these changes of direction – it actually is a good indication of someone who can be flexible in their approach to work.

You should start your application with a Computer cover letter. This should be a document used to direct your prospective employer towards your resume. It should not duplicate the content found there. Start off with the formalities including mentioning the position you would like to apply for and where you saw the job being advertised. You can also explain why you would like to apply for this position. You need to think carefully about this, as if this application is a change of direction for you. You need a good reason why. You can take this opportunity to find out a little about the company you are applying to. Use that information in a positive light as one of the reason why you want to join this company. It won’t do your application any harm if the reader believes you admire the company.

You should also intimate why you believe you would be a good choice for this company, but remember what was said about your resume – don’t cover the same ground here that will be covered in your Computing Resume. Mention your experience, and your qualifications and certificates too, but in much less depth than you will in your resume.

Your Resume should start with an objective. This should explain what sort of computing position you are looking for. Be straight forward and keep it simple. If you are interested in working as a programmer using Lamp then it is perhaps better to just suggest that you would like to work as a computer programmer. Don’t rule yourself out of the running for anything by being too specific.

Follow this with a summary of your skills and qualifications. This should be a list of all your competencies and can include things like your ability to use C++, Java, ASP.NET Html5, your certificates in Lamp Programming – whatever it is that you have strong areas in. Try to keep it in line with your objective though.

The next section of your Computing Resume should be on your Professional experience. This section should run in reverse order starting with your most recent position. You should give plenty of detail here on the duties involved in your previous jobs, unless you were working in a different environment, in which case just stick to the dates of employment.

Your final section should be dedicated to your education. The same rules apply here, whereby you should start with your most recent educational experience first and work back from there. Again, you should endeavour to give as much information as possible about the courses you took which are related to your computer application. Any qualifications that are unrelated you should not expand on. Just list your grades and the dates you took them.
