Dance Resumes
In this very modern day and age, Resumes are changing in some vocational fields. A Dance resume should now include a video of some of your performances, and you can even include this as a link to a website for your prospective employer to view. If you have a website or a social network profile then it would be a great idea for you to put together a routine or performance and upload some video footage to one of these sites for any potential employer to view.
Unfortunately, you will still need to deliver a completely normal Resume alongside anything this new and cutting edge, and this includes writing a Dance cover letter.
Your Dance cover letter should state where you saw the advert for the position, and why you would like to join this particular agency/company/production. It’s important to do a lot of research on whoever you would like to join, because people in this industry tend to be passionate about their productions and they are going to want you to be equally passionate about the work they are carrying out.
When it comes to selling yourself, you need to mention your past experiences. This will include any paid dance work you have carried out, and amateur work you have been involved in and where you were schooled and to what level. Sometimes it can be hard to sell yourself in what many feel is an art form, but your demo video should do the talking for you for the most part. All you can do here is highlight your experience, and make sure that you give a warm feel to the letter, because people are going to be more positive about working with someone who seems to have a sunny disposition.
Your Dance resume must now include a Dance Demo video as already mentioned. You could also include a video of any productions you have been involved in which would show your ability to perform under the pressure of the public eye.
The written section of your Dance Resume should start off with an objective statement. This should indicate where you believe your career will lead you, and it is important for this statement to tally well with the company you are hoping to join. It’s no good stating that you see yourself as a freeform experimental performer when you are applying for a part in a music video for a pop band.
The next section in your Dance Resume should focus on your training and qualifications. You should start from your most recent training and mention any exams you’ve passed or qualifications or certificates you have received. You can give less attention to anything that is not strictly relevant to dance and focus on what your prospective employer really needs to know about.
The same can be said for your professional experience. Focus on recent performances, and highlight anything that has been particularly successful or has had an extended run, thanks to public popularity.
The last section of your Dance Resume should be devoted to passions of yours that are non dance related. The Dance world is a high pressured environment at times and you should try very hard to show that you are a happy and positive person who gets on well with others. Membership of any outside clubs will help to show that you are a well balanced and sociable person.
