Driver Resumes

Driving is quite a competitive field and you need to make sure that your application puts you ahead of the competition.

Start off by writing a Driver cover letter. Make the effort to find out the name of the person you are going to be contacting rather than just putting Dear Sir/Madam. It shows that you have taken the trouble to find out, and it shows that you can use your initiative.

Make sure the opening sentence of the letter makes clear why you are writing. If possible, refer to an advert you saw and which you are replying to.

Once you are into the heart of the Driver cover letter you must make sure you provide certain pieces of content. You must mention the position of the job which you are applying for, and why you should be the person to do it. This can be broken down into three very simple statements which you need to answer: Why you want to work for this company, in what way you are suitable for the work, why you are qualified or suitable for the position. If you can cover these points you are on the right track. Beyond this, you are aiming to direct your reader towards your Resume, so be sure to refer to this document throughout. Your Driver Cover letter should touch upon things like your experience and qualifications for the job, but the detail of this should be in your resume, so point your prospective employer in the right direction!

Once you are putting together your Driver Resume it is important that you are clear about the specifics of the job for which you are applying. Some drivers jobs involve further responsibilities, such as collection, stock rotation, dealing with enquiries etc so make sure you are aware of all this before writing your Driver Resume. Also make sure that you are actually qualified for the job in terms of your drivers’ license. You will need to be in ownership of the correct category of licence to even stand a chance of successfully landing the job.

Start the Driver Resume off with your name and address and follow this with your objective, which should mention your goals matched with the job title, in other words your objective should be to find a fork lift driving position with a great company – if that is what the job advert suggests they are looking for.

The next part of your Driver Resume should focus on your career so far, paying particular attention to your experience in other companies as a driver. If you have several categories on your licence be sure to highlight this to demonstrate your flexibility in terms of being legally able to drive different types of machinery.

Follow this section with your education. And here of course you should highlight any specific education or training courses you have attended that relate directly to this driving job.

This Driver Resume should be as strongly focused on driving as possible and a general resume really won’t do. Focus in on your strengths and experience in the field, and follow our guidelines and you should be a long way towards securing a driving position!
