Engineering Resumes

Any Engineering Resume should be complemented by an Engineering Cover Letter. Remember that the cover letter is just a brief introduction to yourself, and should not cover the same ground exactly as your resume. The cover letter should act as a way for you to speak directly to the employer, allowing you to persuade them to read further, and giving them the opportunity to find out any information that is relevant to your application which is not included in your resume. Try to also go through the original job application point by point, attempting to answer all of the questions asked of the candidates. Show your experience, your qualifications, but merely touch on these subjects because you will be expanding on them within your Engineering Resume.

The Engineering Cover Letter should only be a couple of paragraphs long, so keep it short and sweet. Make sure that your cover letter answers to job advert as closely as possible, because this will show that you understand the position and that you are a good prospect for the job.

Once the cover letter is out of the way, you will need to give your resume a good going over, as this will form the main interest in the eyes of the prospective employer. Remember that this is a document to really sell your strengths. You need to show off exactly what you have done in the world of Engineering. Don’t just refer to positions held – you should be looking to expand at every available opportunity on what it was exactly that you did in each job, highlight responsibilities and particular skill sets that you have been able to develop purely because of your experience. This is a way to mark yourself out from the crowd.

In terms of the correct way to format an Engineering Resume, you should start off as always with your name and address at the top of the page, and this should be followed with your objective. Your objective should be a very strong and simple sentence, outlining exactly what you want from your next job position. Be careful here though, because you need to make sure that your objective matches with the job description of the particular company to which you are applying. After this, you can list your work experience, followed by any relevant qualifications. The final part of the resume will be devoted to your out of work activities. This is a good opportunity to show that you get involved in things outside of work, and that you are sociable and a good team player. If you can mention any membership of clubs or sports teams then so much the better.

If you can follow these instructions and keep your Resume and cover letter relevant succinct and filled with facts about yourself then there is no reason why you should not land a job ion engineering very soon!
