Information Technology Resumes
The first rule of thumb for an Information Technology Resume is that you really need to include more technical information than in normal Resumes. The fact is, these jobs have a lot more to them technically than many other jobs so it’s important for you to make sure that list all the skills that you have built up so far in your Information Technology career.
You should start off your Information Technology Resume with a cover letter. You cover letter needs to convey your passion and skill in the subject so your letter needs to combine facts backing up your ability along with a genuine feel for the subject. Don’t be afraid to be enthusiastic as all employers would rather have an upbeat member of staff.
The first couple of sentences of your Information Technology cover letter should confirm that you would like to be considered for the position and you should also explain why you would like the position. Your reasons for this can be many and varied but it is a good opportunity for you to do some research on the company and show your knowledge and admiration for what they do.
The next paragraph of your Information Technology cover letter is going to be all about you so make sure that you are enthusiastic and positive. You should mention some of your work experience and qualifications but try to save some of this for your Information Technology Resume.
Finish off your Information Technology cover letter with a sentence which should remind the reader that you would like to be considered for the position and also that you will contact the employer at a fixed point in time to follow up your application.
Your Information Technology Resume needs to be packed with information about your skills. I would start your resume with an objective indicating the sort of position you are looking for. Follow this with a summary of your skills which should be bullet pointed. This is a very important section of your Information Technology resume and you need to be sure that you have listed all of your skills here. You should mention all programs you can operate and try to break down Information Technology into several sections, highlighting your skills in each one.
Your next section should be on your professional experience. Work from your most recent position backwards, and make sure that you go into quite a bit of detail on each position. Try to list the skills you utilised in each position, and if you can, talk about any new skills you developed whilst working for that particular company.
Your last section of your Information technology Resume should be on your education and qualifications. Once again this should start with your most recent qualification and work backwards. Try to give more information about the qualifications which have been gained purely to further your career in Information Technology and give less when discussing non IT related qualifications.
Good luck with your Resume and remember to pack it out with facts, facts and more facts!
