One of the most important aspects of working in Marketing is to be cutting edge and to be creative, so you know that you need to make sure that both your Marketing Resume and cover letter follow that principle! You should start off your application with a Marketing cover letter, which is an opportunity to get your personality across to your prospective employer.
A good cover letter always does three things. It responds to the job posting, it explains why you should be able to do the job, and it explains why you would want the job. You may want to do a highly creative application, but these answers need to be included. State why you think you are the best person for the job, and use experience and qualifications to back up your claims, but remember to talk of these sparingly here – remember that you will be expanding on this in your Marketing Resume. Make sure that your presentation is absolutely immaculate, because in this position you will be at some points expected to produce literature on behalf of clients which must be perfect, and you don’t want your prospective boss to think that you can’t manage that.
Once the Marketing cover letter is out of the way, it is on to the main event. Your Marketing Resume needs to be something that really stands out. This is a competitive market place, and you will be up against plenty of people who have been successful in this field.
Start things off with an eye catching objective. This objective must show what you want to achieve in the world of marketing, but make sure you understand about the direction of the company to which you are applying, and try to make sure that your objective matches their own objectives.
The next section of your Marketing Resume should cover your work experience. This is the section where you can really score with a marketing job. Make sure that you really dig deep into your previous positions, talk about specific marketing campaigns and give the prospective employer a flavour of the style of your work. Highlight any large clients that you have worked for, and mention any particular successes you have experienced.
The next section should be all about your qualifications. This should run in reverse order starting with the most recent. Again, and only for relevant qualifications, you should go into detail about what areas of the subjects you enjoyed, and excelled in .
Finish off your Marketing Resume with a section about what you like to do in your spare time. Here you have the chance to highlight that you can work with people on projects,. So if you are a member of any club or teams, or committees then this is the place for it to go.
