Military Resumes

If you are looking for a position in the military and you are currently a civilian then it is up to you to present yourself to the highest standards. Entering the Military is not easy but it helps if you are coming from a governmental position, or at least a position of trust or authority, so you should try to build this into your Military Resume.

The first thing to note is that your application must be of a very high, professional standard. To fall into line with this, you will need to submit a Military cover letter with your Resume.

Your Military cover letter must state which position you are applying for and where the position is based. You must also inform the reader where you heard about the vacancy. Another important part of the cover letter is to mention why you would like to apply. A lot of people who apply for Military positions drop out quite early on in the recruitment process so it is important to be persuasive of the fact that you are very focused on making your ambition come true. It’s important that you do a lot of research on the position in order that you can make clear in your application that you fully understand the role and what is involved.

You also need to sell yourself to your prospective employer. Be wary of duplicating information bound for your Military Resume, but try to mention some of your experience and qualifications that you think might help with your application.

Finish off your cover letter by reiterating your desire to join the Military, and thanking the reader for their consideration.

Your Military Resume needs to start with an objective which will make clear what sort of role you would like to achieve within the Military. It is sometimes wise to keep this statement quite broad so as not to rule yourself out of any opportunities.

The next section of your Military Resume should be focused on your qualification and skills summary. This can be a difficult section to fill out, but you just have to come up with as many things from your work and education that you think are really very relevant to the position for which you are applying. Try to look objectively at your past work and look to see what skills would be transferrable to your new position.

The next section of your Military Resume should be your Professional experience. This section should run in reverse chronological order starting with your current or last employment. This is a section where you can expand quite a lot on your previous jobs in order to explain their relevance to your prospective new role. Again, you will need to take a sideways look at your past jobs in order to see how they can be relevant to a Military position.

Your final section must be on your education. This again must run in reverse order from your most recent qualification and should go back to your High School results.
