Licensed Vocational NurseA licensed vocational nurse helps patients with daily living activities and provides direct patient care. The responsibilities of a licensed vocational nurse includes helping patients with bathing, washing and brushing hair, dressing and performing other personal hygiene tasks. They also help reposition patients in bed, and assist them with standing and walking. Licensed vocational nurse observes patients for any changes in behavior or health, and measure and record vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure and pulse rate.
A licensed vocational nurse under general supervision provides a wide variety of direct patient care by performing the more responsible, non-registered nursing duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse. They provide basic patient treatment like recording blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration; administering medications as prescribed by physicians; may adjust or discontinue flow of intravenous therapy; performs various types of catheterizations and irrigations and provides for the safety, emotional and physical comfort of the patient.
