Nursing AssistantA nursing assistant is a person who assists individuals with healthcare needs and with activities of daily living. He/she provides basic nursing procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. A nursing assistant is an important member of the health care team who often holds a high level of experience and ability.
A nursing assistant performs the following duties in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical facility, under direction of nursing and medical staff like answering signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patients' needs and bathing, dressing, and undressing the patients. Nursing assistant serves and collects food trays and feeds patients requiring help and transports patients, using wheelchair or wheeled cart, or assists patients to walk. He/she drapes patients for examinations and treatments, and remains with patients, performing such duties as holding instruments and adjusting lights.
