Professor Resumes
As a Professor you will undoubtedly have held many positions and you will also have undertaken a Degree, and possibly followed this with a PHD. Your working life will have seen you working at either Colleges or Universities and you might be looking to further your career and elevate yourself to a higher position. Unfortunately you cannot rest on your laurels and you need to produce a really good Professor Resume.
You should start your Resume with a professionally put together Professor cover letter. This should include the information of which position you are applying for, and out of courtesy and for their records, you should make it clear where you saw the position being advertised. Do some research on the College or University that you are hoping to join and make sure you have something to say about the institution when you are explaining why you would like to join them.
The second paragraph of your Professor cover letter should focus on your skills and why they should hire you. You can keep this fairly brief, because although it is perfectly acceptable and even encouraged to discuss your career and education within your cover letter, you will be talking about this in more detail in your Professor Resume so you don’t want to duplicate any of your content.
Finish up your cover letter by mentioning again your desire to be considered for the post, and suggesting to your potential employer that you will contact them in the next few days to follow up your application.
Your Professor Resume should be heavily focused on your previous professional experience. You should start off though with an objective. This should explain what sort of position you are looking for in your professional life. Try to make sure that this statement makes sense when viewing the criteria for the position you are applying for. You want to make sure that your goals are similar to the goals of the institution as a whole too.
The next section of your Professor Resume should be all about your Education. Don’t worry too much about early education – you should be giving much more detail to your Degree and/or PHD. Make sure you explain what you majored and minored in and try to explain how these qualifications lead to your current status as a professor.
Your Final section of your Professor Resume will probably be your largest one. This section is entirely devoted to your professional experience. Start this off working in reverse chronological order starting with your most recent or current position. For each position you should be looking to say what dates did you work there from and to, what was the position of your role called, what was the nature of your role, and how did you help the College or University develop by being in your position. If there was a marked improvement in grades under your helm then you should make sure you mention this.
Good luck with your Resume, and try to remember that you have to spell out all of your successes during your career in order to stand out from the crowd.
