Sales Resumes
Jobs in Sales are not always easy to come by because of the competitive nature of the job and the enormous amount of people looking out for positions in sales roles. Because of this you need to make sure that your Sales Resume is in tip top order.
The most important thing for your application is that you have to work twice as hard than in other applications to sell yourself. Because you job is to sell, if you can’t sell yourself very well, no one is going to be interested in employing you to sell on their behalf.
The first thing to do is to compose a really positive Sales cover letter. Remember that you have between a half and three quarters of a page to make you sound like the best sales person out there! You need to make sure your potential employer understands which exact position you are applying for, where you saw the advert and why you would like to work for their company. Do some research on the company in question because this shows that you are willing to do your home work and it makes it look like you have a genuine passion for the company, and not just the type of job role.
The next paragraph of your Sales cover letter is perhaps the most important. This paragraph is for you to explain why you are the right person for the job. This section requires a confident argument backed up with facts. If you say that you are great at improving sales results across the board, highlight an occasion that this has happened with the necessary financial figures to back it up. You can of course refer to previous posts, and past qualifications, but try to keep this information concise. You can expand on these points in your Sales Resume. Round off your cover letter by again stating your desire to be considered for the position and make sure to confirm that you will be in touch shortly to chase up your application – as a sales person you need to show your determination not to lose an opportunity.
Your Sales Resume must exude an equal amount of belief in your own abilities. I recommend starting off with a very confident objective. This should be a statement which maps out your hopes for your future. You should always pitch your ambition above the job for which you are applying. It shows that although you are happy to apply for this position, you have the belief that the results you will bring will elevate you to a position above this one in the near future. Confidence is a coveted personality trait when it comes to Sales roles, so show yours at all opportunities!
Your Sales Resume must also have positive Professional experience and Education sections. Highlight the really positive achievements, again highlighting success with facts and figures, and minimise any areas of your history that don’t show quite such good results. You should also provide more information about recent positions and qualifications than ones which were obtained or carried out earlier in your career or education.
You can finish your Sales resume with a section about your achievements outside of your career. Participation in sports teams shows you to be a team player and a winner and it won’t do your application any harm at all.
