Elementary Teacher

Elementary teachers instruct children from the nursery-school level through the sixth grade. They introduce children to learning and to the basic skills necessary for later education and for life. An Elementary Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. He/she is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success.

An Elementary Teacher teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to students in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities. Responsibilities include motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education in accordance with each student’s individual ability. The work of an Elementary Teacher is not purely academic, as teachers help children to become self aware, socially aware and more confident.
