Engineering technicians use the principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems in research and development, manufacturing, sales, construction, inspection, and maintenance. Some engineering technicians work in quality control. They check products, do tests, and collect data.
The work of engineering technicians is more application oriented and more limited in scope than that of engineers. Engineering technicians specialize in engineering disciplines like aerospace, civil, electrical and electronics, computer hardware, mechanical and other disciplines. Those who want to work as engineering technicians should have at least an associate degree in engineering technology. Those who plan to become engineering technicians may also take certification courses on specific specialization which can give them a competitive advantage at the time of employment.
