Setter Resumes
To become a setter you need to have a good grasp of operating machinery specific to the trade, and you also need to be highly diligent when it comes to safety. It can be a good and rewarding career, and to land a decent job you need to have an excellent Setter Resume and cover letter.
You should start your application with a Setter cover letter. Make sure that you apply for the job on a formal basis, and use the opportunity to give a couple of reasons why you think you would be right for the job. You can obviously mention your career history and your qualifications but a word of warning – you don’t want to go into too much depth about these topics here because there will plenty of space to do that in your Setter Resume.
Once you have finished your Setter cover letter it is time to make a start on the resume. You should start with an objective which explains what sort of role you are looking for. Try to make sure that your objective is relevant to the job at hand though, to do this you can use the job description as a guide.
The next section of your Setter Resume should be a list of your skills in the trade. You can start off by saying how long you have been working as a setter, and then go on to list your skills. You should be looking to mention your excellent ability to operate and maintain printing machines, your ability to pay close attention to detail, your knowledge of setting on different types of materials and your ability to plan your work.
The following section of your Setter Resume should reflect your career to date. You should start with your most recent job, and work backwards from there. Try to explain what you were expected to do in each post. Mention things like having to check all of the machinery every day, and mention if you were responsible for servicing the machines on a regular basis. Explain if you worked in a training position where you supervised other people operating the setting machinery. You should also indicate if you had to use your knowledge of the industry to decide how best to set particular jobs and orders.
The final section of your Setter Resume should focus on your qualifications. There are no particular qualifications for this position, but you may have joined the American Association of Machine Setters, which will put you in good stead for the position. Remember also to list your grades from High School and any other qualifications you have picked up since to make your qualifications section seem more full.
