Here are Accountant Cover Letter Examples:

Dear Accounting Department Director:

My name is Charles Bennett and I am graduating Magna Cum Laude this weekend from the Emerson College of Business at XYZ University. I am planning to begin studying for the certified public accountant examination so that I can pass it as soon possible; however I would like to apply for a position as a junior accountant in your firm now. I actually did an internship at A, B and C Accountants, LLC last summer where I worked for Ms. Samantha Smith in the Auditing Department. A letter of reference from Ms. Smith is attached to this letter along with my resume.

I am a member of the Beta Alpha Psi business fraternity and served as president of the XYZ University Accounting Club this past year. While in college I have taken courses in financial and managerial accounting, financial reporting, strategic cost management, auditing, accounting information systems, financial statement analysis and tax accounting. I particularly enjoyed working in the Auditing Department at A, B and C during my internship, but would welcome the opportunity to work in any department where there is an opening.

As a new graduate, I am willing to do any work necessary and am eager to go through the A, B and C training program for junior accountants. I would appreciate any learning opportunities made available to me and would make the most of them. I am available to work long hours including evenings and weekends as I know that is necessary when handling a large project or facing a tight deadline.

I hope you will review my attached resume and consider me for a junior accountant job as soon as one becomes available. I would welcome the opportunity to come to your office for an interview. I can be reached on my cell phone at (555)-555-5555 or via email at [email]

Respectfully,

Charles Bennett

Example 2 -Unadvertised Opening

This accountant cover letter example is from a person who has been out of the work force for 5 years due to having a child, but wishes to return to the work force now that the child is in school. She holds an accounting degree and a certified public accountant.

Dear Human Resources Director:

I am happy to be returning to the workforce after a 5-year hiatus. I left my position as an accountant at the ABC Firm in Chicago 5 years ago when my daughter was born. We have since moved to Indianapolis due to a job transfer for my husband and our daughter has now started school. I am ready to return to the professional accounting world as soon as possible and would be honored to work at XYZ Accounting, Inc. I have taken continuing education courses over these last 5 years to maintain my certified public accountant (CPA) and certified financial planner (CFP) designations as well as to stay up-to-date on changes in the industry.

I graduated from the ABC School of Accounting at State University with honors in 2003 and immediately went to work at the ABC Firm in Chicago. I worked there for 5 years until the birth of my daughter. While at ABC I came to specialize financial planning. Specifically I helped families devise plans to pay for college, retirement, weddings and other milestones as well as assisted them in making their financial futures as secure as possible. I worked with families from diverse walks of life with a wide range of financial resources.

Although I have extensive experience working with families in the financial planning area of an accounting practice, I am not limited to that area only. I am happy to work in corporate financial planning as well as in any other department where there is an opening for an accountant at XYZ. I am available to come to your office for an interview at your convenience, and I can be reached on my cell phone at (555)-555-5555 or via email at [email] My resume is attached. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Jacobs:

I am responding to your advertisement for an accountant needed at ABC and Company that appeared in the Sunday edition of the Kansas City Star. I have 4 years’ experience working as an accountant at XYZ Accountants, Ltd. in Omaha, Nebraska. I recently relocated to Kansas City due to a job transfer for my wife. I began my career at XYZ as a general accountant and after 2 years moved to the Fraud Department where I have honed my skills at recognizing potential fraud and preventing clients from getting into legal trouble due to improper accounting practices. I also worked on fraud investigation teams for a number of XYZ clients as well.

I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the Bear School of Business at ABC State University in Texas in 2009 and immediately moved to Omaha to accept a position as an accountant at XYZ. I am excited about settling in Kansas City and eager to begin work as soon as possible. Your ad indicates that you are specifically looking for an accountant who holds a certified fraud examiner (CFE) designation. I hold such a designation and find working in accounting fraud to be very rewarding. My resume is attached along with a reference letter from Alexander T. Clay, Vice President of the Fraud Department at XYZ Accountants, Ltd.

I would greatly appreciate being considered for the open position in accounting at ABC and Company. In addition, I am willing and able to go through any training program that is required by ABC management. I am available to come to your office for a personal interview at your convenience or participate in a phone interview any time. I can be reached on my cell phone at (555)-555-5555 or by email at [email] I look forward to hearing from you.
