An administrative assistant cover letter should accompany a resume. The letter should get to the point and not be overly wordy. It should expand on the applicant’s top qualifications that are listed in the resume. The applicant should take the time to learn as much as possible about the prospective employer and relate specific skill sets to jobs at the company. There should be absolutely no misspelled words or grammatical errors in a cover letter. Also, it is unwise to send the same cover letter to every company. A unique cover letter for each company is a much better idea. Here are three administrative assistant cover letter samples which you can use to create your own.
Example 1 – Target to Company
This administrative assistant cover letter example is from an applicant who is moving to the city and has submitted a resume to the human resources department of a large airline located in a big city. The assistant has worked in such a capacity at a smaller airline in a little town.
Dear Human Resources Manager:
My name is Carol Sanders and I am submitting my resume for an administrative assistant position at XYZ Airlines in Atlanta, Georgia. I have 18 years’ experience working as an administrative assistant at ABC Airlines in Nashville, Tennessee. I spent 10 years as an assistant to the Director of the Personnel Department and the last 8 years assisting the Director of the Public Relations Department. I am willing to use my skills as an administrative assistant in any department at XYZ Airlines and hope you will seriously consider my resume.
I have recently relocated to Atlanta due to my husband’s job transfer and need to find employment soon. I have always wanted to work for XYZ Airlines as it is the top airline in the nation. The level of service to passengers is second to none and the flight records are impeccable. I would be thrilled to work for XYZ and know that my administrative skills would benefit any department in the company.
I have excellent computer skills including proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Word 2010, Access, Excel and Power Point, and I understand that most of your administrative assistants frequently use these programs. In addition, I have experience with budgets and accompanying financial reports as well as experience supervising a clerical staff. I always welcome the opportunity to learn new techniques and skills and look forward to a training program at XYZ Airlines if there is a place for me there.
A chance to come in to the XYZ Airlines corporate office to interview with a representative is something I would greatly appreciate. I know your representative would have a plethora of questions to ask a prospective administrative assistant and I am prepared to answer all of them. We have wanted to move to a larger city for some time now as there are better job opportunities available.
