Ms. Kathleen Childers
4853 Echo Lane
Grand Rapids, MI 49503
Dear Ms. Childers,
I am writing in regards to the advertisement for a Researcher in aquaponics at your Grand Rapids facility. I am a researcher with a background in both natural and applied sciences. I am currently employed as the greenhouse manager of a small community college that emphasizes training in the areas of agriculture, mining science and forestry technology. I have previously worked as a science educator for a freshwater fish hatchery with an outstanding public outreach program.
My educational background is in biology, with an emphasis on botany. After graduation I worked at a botanical garden located in a large urban center. I also spent time in research and science education at an arboretum run by a university agriculture department.
When I began to turn towards work that required a stronger understanding of zoology and wildlife management, I returned to school for graduate studies in Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Biology. I then went on to complete a fellowship in wildlife conservation in the boreal forests of Canada and Alaska.
I am very excited about the prospect of return to a research-oriented position, and have a great interest in aquaponics. I look forward to joining a cutting edge team in learning more about best practices for sustainable food production. I am particularly enthusiastic about continuing research into productivity in cold climates, and the potential economic impacts that will result from developing larger scale aquaponics facilities in the north.
Please find enclosed my resume and letters of reference. I would be happy to meet with you to discuss the position further. Please don’t hesitate to call me at (111)-866-1463.
