Education/Experience Requirements
A successful candidate must possess at least a bachelor’s degree in social service fields, such as psychology, sociology, social work, or other similar discipline, plus at least two years of hands-on experience as an adoption case worker. Adoption case managers require certification, licensure or registration, but this will depend on the location of work.

Proven skills in interviewing children and adolescents; solid negotiation, brokering and collaboration skills; effective case evaluation and monitoring, excellent research skills, superb written and verbal communication skills; ability to act as a spokesperson on behalf of a child or a family; and advanced knowledge in family codes and adoption laws, among others.

Interviewing clients and assessing their capabilities, problems and situations to determine the services required; providing comprehensive adoption services to families; counseling individuals regarding issues of physical abuse, mental health, unemployment, poverty and other problems; maintaining case history records and preparing detailed reports; helping in the recruitment, assessment and licensing of adoptive families, among others.
