Experienced Aeronautical Project Engineer Job Description

The job of an aeronautical project engineer involves directing and coordinating activities of staff assigned in designing systems, structures, equipments and mechanisms for aerospace or aeronautical products. He/she must apply knowledge of technology and engineering theory, review product requests from customers and produce conceptual design to meet customer requirements.

Education/Experience Requirements

A successful candidate must possess a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering, aeronautics, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, thermal dynamics, fluid dynamics, computer science or any related field. Some companies prefer candidates with work experience on specific fields related to their company.

Skills

Excellent knowledge in science and mathematics; advanced knowledge in engine systems and aircraft structures; a good understanding of thermodynamics and aerodynamics; superb analytical and problem-solving skills; advanced mathematical and CAD skills; a good understanding of thermodynamics and aerodynamics; knowledge of design techniques, engineering principles and mechanical processes used in aircraft.

Specific work elements

Analyzing project proposals to determine producibility, feasibility, cost and production time; discussing proposals engineers, customers and other staff members working on the project assigning project personnel specific tasks for each phase of the project; evaluating product designs to determine if they conform to engineering principles, quality standards and customer specifications; approving designs changes and drawing releases; coordinating design, production, testing and other related activities; and providing technical assistance and information to project personnel.
