Letter of Appreciation to Boss about Employee

It is unfortunate when a quiet employee who works hard, causes no problems and does an excellent job, is overlooked. Sadly, some employees are only noticed if they resign to move to another employer. The management may then take notice, because of the void that is left. That is where a letter of appreciation to a boss about an employee can help make sure a dedicated individual is recognized for a stellar job performance.

Format and Content

A letter of appreciation to a boss about an employee format should include the employee’s name, title, department and some specific tasks the employee performs in an exceptional way. The letter can be from a co-worker, supervisor, manager or even another employee in a different department. It can be written to the owner, president or CEO of the company. It is important for loyal employees to know that their efforts are appreciated by upper management.

Sample

A manager in the e-commerce division of a department store wishes to bring to the attention of the company president the excellent job performance of one of the telephone representatives. In order to recognize the individual, she wrote this letter of appreciation to a boss about an employee sample.

Dear Mr. Crane,

I am writing this letter to let you know how much I appreciate the consistently excellent work of our top telephone representative, Sarah Cunningham. She has an exceptional talent in dealing with people, and in 12 years of managing this department, is the best representative I have ever had the pleasure of supervising. She has been with the company for 3 years, has never been out sick, is sorely missed when she takes her vacation and always has a cheerful disposition.

There are regular customers who call in and ask for Sarah by name. They are willing to wait on hold to have the opportunity to place their orders with Sarah, instead of being helped immediately by another representative. She has an amazing memory and knows our product lines inside and out. She is the best representative when it comes to upselling our products. Sarah has an uncanny ability to read customers and know what types of additional products to offer to them.

Even though she is by far the top representative, she is humble, gracious and very well-liked and respected by her co-workers. She is one of my trainers, and does a fantastic job of working with new hires to get them ready to field calls on their own. Sarah is literally never in a bad mood and seems to genuinely enjoy her job. I wish I could clone her and fill the call center with 1,000 Sarah’s. I wanted to make you aware of Sarah’s spectacular job performance, and hope that you will speak to her personally next time you visit our office.

Sincerely,

Karen Franklin
