An Event Coordinator Cover Letter That Will Dazzle Employers

Posted in Cover Letters

Event coordination is an interesting field because it has many different entry points. People approaching an event coordinator position might have trained specifically for the job or they might have gained experience in other fields such as office administration, communications, or even finance. Regardless, there are certain common skills and qualifications that should find their way to every event coordinator cover letter.
While there are no formal educational requirements to become an event coordinator, most employers would like to see at least a bachelor’s degree out of their top candidates. If you have a degree in English, communications, or business administration, you should consider mentioning that early in your cover letter. If not, you can overcome that shortfall by emphasizing good job qualities like strong organizational skills, a good eye for detail, and the ability to work efficiently within a budget.
The sample event coordinator cover letter below uses an individual who received her bachelor’s degree in English and who gained experience relevant to this position through a short career in office administration. Note that there is an emphasis on key qualities such as reliability and willingness to work long hours, which can be demonstrated in a number of different ways.

Dear Ms. Mayo,
Please consider me as a candidate to fill the open event coordinator position with the St. Johnsbury Council of the Arts. I am an experienced administrator and coordinator with knowledge of event protocol and a determination to make sure that every task I am responsible for is completed with both speed and quality.
I attended college at the University of New Hampshire, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in English. Following that, I remained at the college for a short period of time as first a temporary employee and then a full-time office administrator in the College of Arts and Sciences. Since leaving New Hampshire and coming to Vermont, I have involved myself mostly with nonprofit organizations, most recently at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. While at that hospital, I was responsible for arranging charity events and educational seminars. My hope is to continue that line of work by devoting myself to helping the Council of the Arts with the coordination of all future events.
You will find me to be a very devoted and detail-oriented employee. My resume is enclosed, and I will happily present references that can corroborate my aforementioned career experience as well as the high quality of the support I provided to each organization. I am very excited about this opportunity and hope to speak with you in more detail soon. You can contact me via email at [email] or by phone during the day at (802) 748-5523. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to speaking with you soon.
