Dear Ms. Evelyn Williams,
I am very excited about the Student Counselor position opening up at Washington State University and I know that I am a great match for this job.
I have a bachelor’s degree in counseling and I plan to continue my education by obtaining a master’s degree. I also took courses that centered on personality psychology and lifespan development and I have a state license to hold this position.
Students have a lot of things going on at once and sometimes, they just can’t cope with all the pressure and they need the guidance of a counselor. I have a real desire to help students work through their problems and find solutions that will help them meet both their academic and personal needs.
My training includes giving psychological tests designed to help students determine what they have a real interest in and to help them find the areas where they excel. My experience also includes working with students that have been abused or neglected and I have the ability to help them learn ways to cope. Some of my sessions will revolve around group counseling and others will be for individuals.
I also have the ability to observe the students in all situations to see what they are really feeling, not just what they are saying. I can help students deal with social and emotional problems or help them achieve their academic goals. I understand the importance of coordinating with administrators, teachers and parents and I have the communication skills to explain the problems students are having.
