Administrative Office Manager Job Description

The job of an Administrative Office Manager involves handling different administrative duties, ranging from managing office facilities to providing administrative support and supervising junior administrative staff. When an office only hires one administrative professional, he/she will serve as the administrative office manager, who will be responsible in handling all duties that fall outside the job description of other personnel.

Education/Experience Requirements

A successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in business, management, or a similar field and at least 3 years experience in the administrative department. He/she must also have at least 1 year experience in a supervisory position.


Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proven administrative support skills, leadership and organizational skills, as well as problem-solving and analytical skills. The manager should also be proactive, inquisitive and be able to motivate, lead and instruct staff from different fields, work under strict deadlines and work independently or as a team.

Specific work elements

Managing expense reports and performing tasks in the absence of executive assistants, arranging meetings and travel accommodations of management personnel, supervising and delegating the tasks of receptionists or desk clerks, ordering and taking regular inventories of office supplies, appliances and furniture; overseeing operation of office equipments such as phone systems or fax machines; coordinating office renovations and relocations, and other tasks as assigned.
