A hiring manager is also known as the HR manager. His main job is to interview, recruit and then hire potential employees who have the talent and skill a certain company is looking for. He goes over a large number of cover letters, application forms and resumes to find the candidate/s that will best meet the needs as well as the requirements of the company.

Duties

A hiring manager needs to have a thorough understanding on the policies and mission of the company he is working with. He must maintain a close contact with his clients to be able to know exactly what they are looking for. He explains these policies and mission during the interview procedure to the prospective candidates. He is expected to distribute, edit, and write employee handbooks as well. A hiring manager works in a broad range of industries and needs to explain the health and retirement plans of the company. There is a possibility that the hiring manager will need to train the newly hired employees of the tasks they need to complete on a daily basis. He is in charge of keeping the employees’ morale high by occasionally giving out incentives like bonuses or raises.

Education and Training Requirements

A hiring manager must have bachelor’s degree in psychology or social sciences. He may also major in any other related field. Typically, a hiring manager focuses on college courses in communications, human resources, business and administration. Some schools offer short courses as well as certificate courses in this field.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

To become a successful hiring manager, one must maintain an upbeat and positive attitude towards his work at all times. He must be organized and capable of solving problems in a timely manner. In addition, he must have at least basic skills in math, excellent communication skills, especially his verbal skills, and is computer literate. He must be a good judge of character to distinguish which of the potential candidates will fit best in the company.

Working Conditions

The working condition of a hiring manager differs from job to job. He usually works in large industries like BPO offices, telecommunications offices and the like. This job requires a minimum of 40 hours a week, but this may vary depending on the company. His services are not limited to the office, but he may need to attend meetings and conduct interviews outside the office.

The average salary for a hiring manager is $58,000 annually. Their average salary is dictated by its industry and location. It differs per company. Usually, the more experience you have, the higher the salary and the more benefits you receive.
