Proactive Pest Control Manager Job Description

Summary:

A pest control manager is the one who oversees all the work done by pest control workers. Usually, he is the one contacted by the clients who want to get their houses or offices “exterminated.” He trains the workers and keeps a schedule that they follow on a daily basis.

Duties:

A pest control manager may or may not accompany his workers in the field. On the occasion that they do, they are the ones that give instructions to the pest control workers. They inspect the grounds and premises and identify how grave the property’s damage is. They also figure out where the insects are nesting, and look for other infested areas. They then write, record and study the reports for them to know which type of treatment should work best on the infected parts of the house. They determine whether to spray the whole house or just parts of it, depending how big the damage is. The pest control manager evaluates how much the cost will reach. This includes the materials, the chemicals and the service fee.

Education and Training Requirements:

Usually, pest control managers start out as workers or assistant managers. They do not necessarily have to obtain bachelor’s degrees, but they at least have to have a high school diploma or a GED. As long as they have adequate experience, they may be promoted to pest control managers. Those who possess bachelor’s degrees have to major in chemistry, business administration and other related courses. They must also have to pass an exam to get a license for pest control.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

To become a successful pest control manager, one must be familiar with the different chemicals used in pest control. They must be good in chemistry and math. They must be hard workers and should be able to communicate well orally. They should be good observers – this helps in finding other affected areas in a home or an office building.

Working Conditions:

Initially, when one is still a pest control worker, he works in the field and works at different times of the day with no specific work hours per week. When one becomes a manager though, he works in an office during business hours, rendering at least 40 hours a week.

The average salary for a pest control manager is $44,000 annually. The average salary is depends on industry and location. It differs per company. Usually, the more experience you have, the higher the salary and the more benefits you receive.
