An Inside Sales representative transacts business over the phone. Whether it is to introduce new corporate products and services or to sell it, an Inside sales representative usually does the follow through from the Outside sales team to the Customer Service department. He/she takes up orders from clients, accomplishes order forms, leads, quotations whether via fax email or telephone.
It is the duty of Inside sales representatives to control and maintain the inbound and outbound sales transactions, which makes a company profitable. Other tasks of the inside sales team include educating clients and up selling products and services, maintaining and generating leads, and handling cancellation or changes in order of product or services rendered by the company and informing the personnel or departments involved. He/she should be able to identify when to start the sales pitch. Inside sales representatives also consolidate reports on sales personnel on a monthly basis by region, by industry, by office, by product; attend meetings concerning sales target, forecast and market solutions and participating in trainings and seminars, meetings, skill building and professional development classes; build a network providing convincing product demos for users, resellers or franchisers.
Education and Training Requirements:
It is necessary to acquire a bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Business related field, an engineering degree and must have undergone relevant trainings.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
The ability to adjust himself instantly enables an Inside Sales to work in a fast-paced environment. He must have a strong hold on his written and verbal communications skill, have advanced computer skills, which include Office applications. Other important skills in this line of work include exceptional sales personality skills, a genius acquiring solutions and creative thinking skills. An Inside sales (representative) must be able to multi–task activities and has personality traits such as honesty, assertiveness and strong people skills.
Work is usually done in the confinement of an office, but some inside sales may travel to support in sales, attend trainings, tradeshows or meetings as well as visit customer as requested or required. Working hours are flexible; the position may require representatives to extend work on evenings and weekends, depending on the demands of the customer or business.
An Inside Sales (representative) receives compensation within the ranges of $31,925 – $50,882 per year plus medical and dental benefits. In some companies, they give out commission pay scheme and special incentives (SPIFs) instead. However, salaries may still vary depending on the performance, size, location and general target market.
