Block Letter Format

One of the most common types of letter is the block letter format. This format of letter writing is ideal for most professional circumstances and is a good one to know. If you need to write a formal letter then you can use our block letter format right here as a template for your letter.

The main thing to remember about block format letters is that everything lines up down the left hand side. There should be no use of commas in your names and addresses, and things should be kept as formal as possible in terms of your writing style. Remember, if you have a letterhead or company business name then you can start with this across the top and leave out your contact details, but if this is not the case you must list your contact details on the left hand side at the top. Here’s an example of a layout that you can use as your guide:
