Heartfelt Resignation Letter

At some point in almost everybody’s lives, they find themselves needing to leave a job for some reason. If you are in the position of resigning from a job you really loved, you will miss the people you have worked with. You may want to write a heartfelt resignation letter to your employers, thanking them for all of the valuable experience they have given you and the good times you have had. This will help facilitate continued goodwill between you and your employers in the face of your resignation.

Format and Content

Keep in mind that although you are emotionally involved with the situation and may even be friends with your bosses and co-workers, a heartfelt resignation letter should still be a professional one. Give a brief explanation of your intentions, the exact date your resignation will take effect, and express your regrets and gratitude. You may also wish to give your contact information where you can be reached and send in a copy of the finished letter to Human Resources as well as your immediate supervisor.

Dear Ms. Gutierrez,

I am sending you this letter to regretfully inform you of my impending resignation from ABC Company. Please accept this letter as my two weeks’ notice of resignation. My resignation will come into effect on October 15, 2013. I have enjoyed my years of work for ABC Company and will greatly miss all of my team members and the work environment, but I know that taking this next step will help me get closer to reaching my career goals. I thank you for all of our cooperative efforts over the years.

I have already spent some time informing the rest of the team of my plans. Ms. Burris will be taking over my last project for me and I have every confidence that she will finish it with skill and efficiency. If there is anything I can do to help make this transition more seamless for the team, please let me know.

I will miss you and all of the other team members at ABC Company very much, but look forward to what my future holds. If anybody needs to contact me with questions or concerns, I can be reached via telephone at (555)-555-5555 or via email at [email] I will answer messages as soon as I can. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
