Real Estate Resignation Letter

As a realtor, you have a fast-paced job that requires lots of time and energy. When life brings other priorities into the mix, such as relocation, health, and family, you may have given some thought to quitting. If you do, you should write a formal real estate resignation letter. This is a good way to let your clients know that although you will not be working with them any more, you did not wish to just disappear and leave them in the lurch with no one to take care of them.

Format and Content

As a professional realtor, you will of course want your letter to look as polished as possible. Write on your real estate company letterhead with proper spelling and grammar. After letting your client know that you will no longer be working with them, give a brief introduction of the realtor who will be taking over your responsibilities. Give your number in cases they have any questions for you in the meantime, and be sure to thank your clients for working with you. Sign and date the letter in the appropriate places, as shown below in the example, and make copies to send out to your clients as soon as possible so that they can get into contact with the new agent.

This professional realtor, who has decided to resign indefinitely instead of just taking maternity leave, has sent this formal letter to her clients to inform them of the situation and let them know who will be taking over her responsibilities. Her real estate resignation letter sample shows how to handle this task with dignity and grace.

Dear Ms. Jones,

I am writing to tell you that I am resigning from my realtor work with ABC Realty. As you may know, I was planning on taking maternity leave this month due to the upcoming birth of my child, but after giving the matter a great deal of thought I have decided to resign from my job indefinitely. I have enjoyed working with you but feel that this decision is in the best interest of both myself, my family and all of my clients. I hope you understand. Please note that my last day with ABC Realty will be May 15, 2014.

My responsibilities to you will be overtaken by my colleague, Jessica Ashby. I highly respect and recommend Ms. Ashby as an experienced realtor who will take excellent care with all of your real estate needs. Ms. Ashby will be in contact with you soon, but in the meantime if you have any questions regarding this matter you may contact me at (555)-555-5555 or [email]

Working with you in real estate has been a pleasure and I am sorry to have to end our professional relationship. I am grateful to you for all of the patience and cooperation you have shown me and wish you success in all of your endeavors. Thank you for your understanding.

Yours sincerely,

Marcia Stewart
