An introduction letter may be necessary if you are applying for a job that tends to be on the creative side; this type of letter gives the employer a better idea of your personality and credentials. You may also write an introduction letter if you are introducing yourself and your skills to an employer for an advertised job; these types of introductions letters are often sent along with a resume.

If you are unsure of how to write this kind of letter, the tips below will help. An introduction letter can entice the reader further to look at your resume.

1. Address your letter to the recipient. Always know exactly who to send your introduction letter to; this may be in the job announcement, or you can usually find out by calling the company and asking.

2. Include your name and address. At the top of the page, include your name, address and contact information.

3. Introduction sentence. In the first sentence of your letter, state the purpose of your letter and introduce yourself. Explain briefly why you are writing.

4. Body of letter. In the body of your letter, explain briefly about the skills and qualifications that make you a good candidate for the position. Mention past achievements and experience. Also let the reader know what you like about the company, and what you have found through your research.

5. Closing your introduction letter. In the final few sentences of your letter, mention your resume and express your enthusiasm about meeting for an interview. Let the reader know that you are qualified and ready to go to work.

In your first sentence or two, introduce yourself and summarize the reason for your letter; explain why you are writing.

The second and third paragraphs will be the main body of your introduction letter. In this area, briefly describe the skills and qualification you possess that relate to the job opening. Quickly mention a related accomplishment in past employment, and let the reader know that you have researched the company; point out particular aspects that caught your attention.

In closing, thank the recipient for taking the time to read your letter and consider you for the job; also invite them to read your resume. Show them you are excited about the prospect of getting the job, and ask for an interview or meeting.

Always be sure to sign your name directly above your typed signature. Proofread your introduction letter for errors in spelling or grammar and make any necessary changes.
