After you have interviewed with somebody, you may wind up waiting for a while before you receive a response. At the interview, you should ask the interviewer when you can expect a response. If the stated amount of time has elapsed and you still don’t have an answer, you should send a follow up job letter. This letter will let the interviewer know that you are still interested in the job and waiting for a call. You will usually get an answer telling you how far along the process is.
Format and Content
This letter should provide a reminder of who you are and what position you have applied for. It should emphasize that you have not yet received a response following the interview. That allows the company to re-establish contact with you in case a previous communication was lost for any reason. The follow up job letter format works best if you can provide a reminder of your overall qualifications and any interesting items that came up during your interview. This allows you to make sure you are fresh in the minds of the hiring committee. Finally, you should provide your contact information. This is important because it helps ensure that if the information was lost or incorrect, it can now be recovered.
This example is from a person who interviewed for an accounting position and has not received any follow up for a period of two weeks. In this hypothetical follow up job letter sample, the individual was told to expect a response after this period and is double checking to make sure that no communications were lost.
