Hunting Permission Letter

A hunting permission letter is a type of letter that may be written to land owners to request express permission to hunt on their private property and residence. This letter type is often written by individual hunters who would like to hunt in remote land areas that are not commonly hunted by the majority of hunters in the surrounding region.

Format and Content

The proper hunting permission letter format is usually very generic. However, the format may vary based on individual requests. All of the basics should be used such as, address, phone numbers and other vital contact information. The hunter should inform the landowner of the purpose of hunting and any hunting conditions that would be a concern to the landowner. Also to be noted is the need for a Request Granted form. Many people include this type of form along with the permission request letter.

Sample

This hunting permission letter sample is for a private hunter, Max Wright, who wishes to obtain permission to hunt on his neighbor’s property. Max and his neighbor live on a rural mountain area in a small town in Montana. Max is on good terms with his neighbor. However, he was advised by a friend to obtain a written letter of permission so that any liability concerns may be avoided and taken care of before he hunts on his neighbor’s property.

Mr. Carl,

I am writing you to see if you would be willing to grant me permission to hunt on your property during this fall of the 2013-2014 hunting season. As you know, my son Chase and I are avid hunters and have had much success over the past few years when it comes to hunting different types of game. My son and I are both up to date with all the state rules and regulations of hunting in our area. We would of course respect any specific concerns or conditions that you may have in regards to us hunting for deer on your property.

You may also know that my wife, Beth, is an amazing cook and she always prepares something delicious after my son and I return from hunting. We would be pleased if you and your family would join us for dinner in return for you allowing us to hunt on your land.

I would like to stop by your house sometime next week so that you and I could discuss this letter further. I would like to meet with you in person so that you may sign a permission form, if you are willing to let me hunt on your property.
