Summary

An airline security manager’s primary aim is to manage an airline’s operational security functions and ensure that all employees under his department comply with the requirements of the transportation security administration. The airline security manager is also responsible for ensuring the safety both of the public and his security staff.

Duties

Education and Training Requirements

Also, majority of the airport operators prefer their applicants to have at least seven to eight years of experience in airport security operation or must have acquired an equivalent experience and training. Moreover, it is recommended that a candidate must have at least three years of professional experience in a supervisory or managerial position in a related security field.

As an airline security manger, one must have a lot of types of skills and areas of knowledge. He must possess a detailed knowledge of public security and safety in an airport setting. He must have knowledge of security equipment and procedures that guarantee the safety of an airport. The airline security manger must also have an adequate knowledge of all local, national and international airport security requirements and be conscious of any new law pertaining to airport security. Important skills include administrative analysis, financial planning and computers skills to handle security gadgets, software programs and other technologies. Lastly, an airline security manger must have the ability to handle any large crisis or emergencies.

Working Conditions

Airport security managers usually work in well-lit and clean offices in airport buildings. Generally, they work for forty hours in a week. They may be required to work at night and during weekends. In emergencies, airline security must always make themselves available for duty.
