Cardiac nurse performs postoperative care on a surgical unit, stress test evaluations, cardiac monitoring, vascular monitoring, and health assessments. A cardiac nurse should have the ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and electrocardiographs and diagnose and action abnormalities appropriately.
Cardiac nurse monitors patients for any negative signs of a change in condition, administer medication, help with basic personal care needs, and work with the cardiologist to develop a plan of action for the patient's care. Cardiac nurse should possess advanced knowledge of nursing theory, practice, policies, procedures and equipment relevant to the specialty.
