All employees are legally entitled to a certain number of days off from work each year. However, when you are planning to take some of that time off, it is important to remember to confirm this with your manager by way of a formal letter. A formal leave letter to manager is an expected form of professional communication which can ensure continued good relations with your employers by clearly stating your intentions and having them on file.
Format and Content
There is more than one correct leave letter to manager format. The most common is to put your address, your manager’s address, the date at the top of the page, and briefly write your intentions. You can request specific dates off of work, being clear about which day you would leave and which day you would return. If you have any outstanding vacation days from the previous year, you may ask for them to be carried over. If you can be contacted during your leave, provide your contact information.
